Readership privacy
To understand which writing people engage with, this website measures website page loads, approximate tab sessions, country, device category, page-load time, referring-site categories, active reading time, scroll depth and article listening progress.
Each page load receives a random identifier. A separate identifier in this tab’s session storage groups page views into approximate visits, expiring after 30 minutes without activity. It is not a persistent identifier across browser sessions. Country is estimated by the hosting network, without storing raw IP addresses in readership records. This feature does not use tracking cookies, persistent visitor identifiers, cross-site tracking or advertising profiles. It does not connect readership records to newsletter subscriptions or collect readers’ names or email addresses. Browser privacy signals, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, disable these measurements.
Readership records are retained for 180 days. The private dashboard is available only to the site owner. To limit automated abuse, the service also uses short-lived, hourly changing hashes of IP addresses, deleted after expiry. Raw IP addresses are not stored in readership records. Hosting providers may process separate operational logs.
Reading and listening figures are estimates. A page view does not establish that someone read the article. Traffic sources may be unavailable because of browser privacy settings.
Article narration uses your browser and device’s speech service. Available voices and any processing by that service depend on your device’s settings.
